The Odessey of the Prom Dress

Kylie has been to many formal dances since she turned 16 but she always used a hand-me-down dress. For over a year, she has been talking about getting her very own prom dress for senior prom. Aunt Tami told her that she could have one tailored for her in China if she brought a picture. Kylie was very excited about this idea.

So one of the very first things we did when we got to China was go to the fabric market to get her prom dress made. The dress Kylie picked had a lot of beading and, we found out there wasn't time for the tailor to do the beading. We decided to have the dress made and figured we would figure out how to do some beading. Kylie picked some beautiful blue Thai Silk and waited anxiously all week to see how it turned out.

Here's how the dress looked when we picked it up form the Tailor.

While we were shopping, we found a couple of lace with pearl pieces that we thought we could sew until the part of the dress that is gathered. Tami also found the perfect pearl necklace. When we go to Tami's house she tried it on.

I loved how the back turned out....Royal pain though, as their is a zipper under the ties!

Then we decided to try it with a boy beside her (cousin Aaron had the idea...he is such a great young man!)

Then Kylie and I spent quite a bit of time sewing on beads around the neckline, sleeves and then randomly all over and this is the final product.

This picture shows a closer look at our bead work!

Here she is with THE GUY! (Stephen Stout..... more about their prom night....next post!)

Gorgeous!! Gotta love how somethings made in China aren't easy, they have a different way of doing some things, don't they?

She's stunning!!
